Welcome to Informatix

One stop solution for microcontroller device development and interfacing to the outside world.

We develop microcontroller firmware, the electronics for smart devices, and apps for interfacing to smart devices. Our unique approach delivers high quality and reduces cost through the use of modern software engineering practices and innovative design techniques.

Read on if you have an idea for a new smart device that you would like to be further developed. You will be pleasantly surprised to learn how economical bespoke software can be.

  Software Development

Do you require desktop or tablet application software that connects to a smart electronic device?

  Firmware Development

Do you require microcontroller firmware for a smart electronic device?

  Electronic Development

Do you require a smart electronic device to be developed?

Our design expertise ranges from Microsoft Windows software application development, across Microchip firmware development, through to electronic circuit design, for a fraction of the typical market cost.

Some smart devices we have developed

A selection of smart devices we have developed for our clients, though we have developed many more.

Baby Diary & Monitor

Baby Diary & Monitor

Full colour touch screen device to track an infant's feeding and sleeping times. The device offers the parent advice and statistical information in an easy readable format. With the built in motion sensor and microphone, the device also functions as a baby monitor, sending alarm events via Wi-Fi. The firmware we developed targets the 16-bit PIC24 microcontroller.

Child Hearing Screening

Child Hearing Screening

Low cost hearing screening audiometer for use in schools, controlled by a PC via USB. It offers flexibility by storing test tones on an SD card. The firmware we developed targets the high performance 32-bit PIC32MZ microcontroller and uses the Microchip Harmony framework.

Drinks Bottle Lighting

Drinks Bottle Lighting

Produced as stickers attached to the bottom of the bottle, to draw attention to the drink by illuminating the bottle using various LED colour lighting effects. These ultra low cost devices are manufactured for less than £1 per piece. The firmware we developed is for entry 8-bit PIC10 and PIC12 microcontrollers.

Electronic Component Tester

Electronic Component Tester

Component tester for identifying and analysing semiconductors using in electronics, such as transistors, diodes, thyrisors, triacs or mosfets. The device's high accuracy and low cost can be attributable to the 8-bit PIC16 microcontroller's built in high performance peripherals, thereby reducing additional component count.

ESR Capacitance Meter

ESR Capacitance Meter

A portable device for testing the health of electrolytic capacitors while "in situ" on electronic boards. This instrument provides accurate readings of capacitance and ESR, as well as a pass/fail indication on the LCD display or as an audible tone. The firmware developed targets the 8-bit PIC16 microcontroller.

Handheld Hearing Tester

Handheld Hearing Tester

Medically certified handheld hearing screener with full colour LCD display and menu driven custom keypad. Designed for use by consultants, doctors, and audiologists. Features connectivity to PC data management software via USB. We developed the firmware and accompanying PC software for this PIC18 based medical product.

IOT Doorbell Controller

IOT Doorbell Controller

This sound output device primarily functions as a doorbell, but also as an alarm, speaking clock and hourly chime. With an external speaker connected, the sound quality is near natural since the audio files are stored digitally on an SD card. Being Internet of Things capable, events such as doorbell presses can monitored, and alarm functions triggered remotely. The firmware developed targets the 16-bit dsPIC33 DSP microcontroller.

IOT Room Thermostat

IOT Room Thermostat

This thermostat is a drop-in-replacement for any conventional thermostat without having to changing any wiring, as the device can be trained to mimic wireless boiler commands sent by the original thermostat. Being Internet of Things capable, the room temperature can be controlled and monitored remotely over the Internet. The firmware developed targets the 8-bit PIC18 microcontroller.

>Light Measurement

Light Measurement

Optical spectrum analyser for use in scientific research laboratories. This design uses no moving parts as employed by conventional monochromators, and uses widely available CCD sensors as detectors depending on sensitivity and wavelengths to be measured. We developed the firmware and accompanying PC software for this PIC18 based instrument.

Radio Receiver Converter

Radio Receiver Converter

This low cost converter allows FM radio broadcast to be received on vintage AM radio receivers, thereby saving many cherished radios from going to landfill. The simplicity of the design lends well to it being offered in kit form to hobbyists. The firmware developed targets the 8-bit PIC12 microcontroller.

Rainbow Desk Lamp

Rainbow Desk Lamp

A intelligent low energy desk reading lamp. A built in detector enables the lamp to sense the proximity of a person. If a person is close by, it illuminates warm-white. If the person is still in the room but further away, it cycles through all the colours of the rainbow. If the room is unoccupied, it switches off. The firmware for the lamp targets an 8-bit PIC10 entry microcontroller.

Recording Studio Switcher

Recording Studio Switcher

An audio multi-switch box system as used in recording studios for replacing the traditional "telephone exchange" looking patch-bay boxes. This master-slave model for remote control uses the RS-485 serial protocol for reliable long distance communication. The firmware developed for both master and slave targets the 8-bit PIC18 microcontrollers.

RF Test Equipment

RF Test Equipment

A suite of test instruments for radio frequency development applications. Each instrument can be controlled autonomously, or controlled externally by a Windows PC via USB using application software we have developed. The firmware developed for each instrument targets 8-bit PIC18 microcontrollers.

Rheumatic Therapy Dongle

Rheumatic Therapy Dongle

A device to help treat rheumatoid arthritis by use of massage therapy. This USB dongle in conjunction with accompanying PC software provides a variety of pulsed massaging programmes to be applied to affected areas, thus easing patient symptoms. We developed both the firmware and PC software for this PIC18 based product.

Touch Controlled Tap

Touch Controlled Tap

Known as "The world's most advanced tap". This universal tap features a touch screen display for dispensing boiling, chilled, sparkling, hot and cold water from a single spout. We develop and maintain the firmware for this 8-bit PIC18 based prestigious product.
